Artist Statement
I'm so excited about this new body of work. My inspiration for these women emerged while researching imagery from the early 1900’s. Images from historical erotic postcards and magazines spoke to me. There was something so innocent and raw in these images that I was compelled to capture it on the canvas.
These raw linen canvases were patiently waiting for creation. I purchased them on impulse during the summer of 2021 while on vacation. At that time I had no idea what I would create with them. These canvases brilliantly present sepia color tones and textured fibres that accentuate the skin through the paint and bring old world charm to the piece.
These ladies are titled from the period I believe they represent. As we travel back and forth through time we witness style and human form evolving. Whether it’s hair styles, fashion trends, or interior design these pieces capture the timeless beauty of an era within the backdrop of an ever changing world.
